Troubleshooting

My message has not been sent to the list!

• Give it a day. It can take some time for messages to go through. Take this into account when distributing time-sensitive messages, e.g. event announcements.
• Check that you were using the email address that is signed up to the list. If in doubt, sign up again and wait for confirmation before resending the message.
• The sender will not always receive a copy of the email (this will depend on your settings). If you would like to make sure that the message has gone to the list, check the public archive of list messages.
• University servers will block list messages if they trigger security filters. Messages containing (a) content that resembles code or (b) certain kinds of links (e.g. links shortened via services like Bitly, or ones leading to cloud document storage such as Google Docs) are more likely to be blocked. Avoid using these where possible; if a message containing these did not go through, remove them and try resending.

I attached a flyer for my event, but this wasn’t sent out to the list.

• Attachments will not transfer. Make sure the email message itself contains everything that you want list members to know.

The mailing list changed my formatting.

• Formatting will not always transfer. Where possible, use spacing for clarity and emphasis.
